Inhale Faith. Exhale Love. This is the tag line for Core Compassion Project, a non-profit offering post-rehab Pilates scholarships for women battling breast cancer I started just over one year ago. I never realized how much those words would mean to me until this week when I cried myself to sleep.

Happy Monday! I am at the studio after one week trapped at home in the snow. I do not get to be home that often so I have to say it felt great to be with my family. I spent time cooking when I knew the storm was on the way, so my refrigerator was stocked with healthy foods for the week.

I hear frustrations from students sometimes when they do not get the results they want from their workouts as quickly as they want them. While this post is focused on Pilates workouts, the advice here can be applied to your other workouts as well. I first ask folks how often they practice Pilates. Then I ask them how long they have been studying Pilates. Pilates is meant to be practiced for a lifetime. I have been teaching long enough to know that students who stick with it get results. The physical results will come, but the mental results are immediate! I also see the best results in students who eat healthy. I am a firm believer that what you put into your body is just as important as how you move your body. In addition...YOU MUST BE CONSISTENT! I've said it before, but no workout program is going to bring you success if you are not consistent.

Whoot whoot! I love green smoothies! I know, I know...it's the trend! Well, sometimes I like to be trendy! Especially when I feel immediate energy! I am not very creative with different smoothie recipes. I would if I had more time, and sometimes I will make fruit smoothies for my children just to keep their interest. For just over one year I drink a green smoothie almost every day. I am often asked for my recipe, so here you go! Please keep in mind I have a Vitamix, and your blender may offer a different consistency.

I hate grocery shopping. There, I said it. It requires me to think A LOT. I have to plan, make a list, stay within budget and spend my valuable time trying to figure out what is healthy for me to bring home. All of this knowing I might get grief for bringing home "healthy stuff". This is why I have focused my planning on fabulous recipes that are guaranteed to make my family happy. I am determined to make them a excited as I am about eating healthy foods. I cannot keep strawberry water these days, because every time I fill it up Hoss drinks it all. My kids LOVE green smoothies and salads. I am working hard on other areas where they are not so excited. It is important to me that they learn healthy habits now. Although they think I am over the top I will not go down without doing everything I can to teach them how to take care of their bodies. So...although I do not like grocery shopping I make the best of it!

I had planned to blog today about my experience being a body for the Carolina Pad photo shoot, but a video I received this morning raised so many emotions for me I knew I needed to share it. Most of the feedback I received about traveling to Honduras has been positive. It is so tough to come home and share what you see, because a ten minute story does not shed enough light on the problems faced by their people. I received a couple of questions and comments that weighed heavily on my heart. It let me know that many of you may feel the same. The question that weighed on me was whether or not a one week mission trip can really help others, or if it is more about the "feel good" for the person going. Especially when there is so much need where we live.

Thank you for getting excited about being healthy with me! It is a journey...it does not happen overnight. That's why diets don't work. Sure, you may lose weight, but what happens when you stop the diet? Many times folks gain the weight right back. So let me be honest. I like cookies. I like chocolate. By no means do I eat everything I am supposed to eat. Certain times of the month I feel like I cannot get enough chocolate! Can you relate? If I am not careful I find myself doing well all day, but when I settle down in the evenings I get the munchies. This is why I had to give my kitchen pantry a makeover!

I am an unorganized perfectionist. Is that possible? I like for things to be a certain way, of course, that is not the way life happens is it? I feel stress when I am on a schedule that changes or I have a plan that does not work. I feel my body tense up and my mind starts spinning to figure out a way to make things the most productive. As much as I try to be organized, it's hard for me. I cannot use my iphone calendar, it simply does not work for me. I have tried multiple apps and they do not work. I am just a planner girl. I like something I can carry with me, open up and write down. Except....my planner starts to look like a scattered mess of multiple clipboards, notebooks and calendars! What dos this have to do with Pilates? Organization is crucial in the Pilates world so we do not book clients at the same time, we allow time for our own workouts, time for operating the business, and planning for my family. I want to share my research with you. A healthy lifestyle means less stress, right?
