I am excited to offer my first Healthy Please Giveaway! Glamour Owl Apparel has graciously offered a tank and a pair of yoga pants from their new spring collection! Before I review, I want you to know I am not receiving any form of payment for offering my review. I met Marie a little over a year ago when she offered a trunk show at my studio. I began to sell Glamour Owl at my studio and my clients fell in love with the brand. Glamour Owl is a lifestyle clothing company that was developed on the philosophy that people should be dressed beautifully and comfortably so that they can shine. Plus, she's a Charlotte girl which I like! Continue reading to the bottom for instructions on how you can enter my giveaway!

I hear frustrations from students sometimes when they do not get the results they want from their workouts as quickly as they want them. While this post is focused on Pilates workouts, the advice here can be applied to your other workouts as well. I first ask folks how often they practice Pilates. Then I ask them how long they have been studying Pilates. Pilates is meant to be practiced for a lifetime. I have been teaching long enough to know that students who stick with it get results. The physical results will come, but the mental results are immediate! I also see the best results in students who eat healthy. I am a firm believer that what you put into your body is just as important as how you move your body. In addition...YOU MUST BE CONSISTENT! I've said it before, but no workout program is going to bring you success if you are not consistent.

I am an unorganized perfectionist. Is that possible? I like for things to be a certain way, of course, that is not the way life happens is it? I feel stress when I am on a schedule that changes or I have a plan that does not work. I feel my body tense up and my mind starts spinning to figure out a way to make things the most productive. As much as I try to be organized, it's hard for me. I cannot use my iphone calendar, it simply does not work for me. I have tried multiple apps and they do not work. I am just a planner girl. I like something I can carry with me, open up and write down. Except....my planner starts to look like a scattered mess of multiple clipboards, notebooks and calendars! What dos this have to do with Pilates? Organization is crucial in the Pilates world so we do not book clients at the same time, we allow time for our own workouts, time for operating the business, and planning for my family. I want to share my research with you. A healthy lifestyle means less stress, right?

The new year is exciting for many, because we eat a lot over the Holidays knowing that we are going to get back on track in January! For some of us, we eat way to much all year long and we eat the wrong foods. I am careful what I eat most of the time, but I do tend to indulge more than I should over the Christmas Holidays. This week I want to help you set goals!

Happy New Year! It is January and studios are getting busy! Most of the studio owners I know (including myself) spend November and December preparing to make January wonderful for you! I understand because I am a mom of three busy kids, I work full-time, and sometimes I just get tired! Don't beat yourself up. I want to help you set some goals for the new year. As a personal trainer, this is a very exciting time of year for me because it's my chance to get you to commit to your workouts which will bring a better quality of life for YOU! My goal is to take my clients to a place where they MUST workout. This Christmas I was very proud of my clients. They obviously wanted time off to be with their families, but when given the option to keep their private sessions or cancel them, almost all of them wanted to keep them and were willing to be scheduled at a time that worked for me. This is because they have been dedicated for the year (or many more) and know that a week off and can take them one step back. Don't worry if you are new to fitness. Baby steps! I am here to help you along with any good and caring trainer you may seek for help! Below are a few tips! You can do it!

Do you or your clients ever deal with shoulder pain? Most instructors will have a client at some point who has shoulder pain. I have had a few clients who have shoulder pain unrelated to Pilates, but it makes me think long and hard about the exercises I include in their workouts. My journey to find the answers led me to a few Pilates instructors who are also Physical Therapists. I simply asked them for the "Do's and Don'ts" for working with shoulder issues when teaching or practicing Pilates. Please hear from my colleagues who offer great advice.

First and foremost......stretching feels good, right? Well, I guess that depends on who you ask. I love it, and cannot get enough of it. However, I have a couple of clients who do not like to stretch. For many men, especially, it hurts. Give it time and you will enjoy it, too!

Finally! I can share my experience as an extra on Homeland with you. I was advised by my buddy who is a regular on the show filmed here in Charlotte, NC, to keep my mouth shut! For the most part, I listened to her advice, but it aired last night so now I can share my experience with you.

Mostly everyone has heard or used the term "core strength" at some point. But what defines core strength? Many people think that core strength means using your abs....a couple of sit-ups and you're good to go. Unfortunately, that is not the case. If it were there would be fewer muffin tops and a lot less back pain. In the picture below I was pressing my legs and arms opposite directions into the tree, but without my core strength I would not be able to hold steady.
