It’s my fifth year growing raised bed gardens. I started with one, and each year I have added to my beds. It’s fun and relaxing for me, but if you were to watch me try to figure out some of this on my own it’s quite comical! I am fortunate to receive advice from some friends of mine who I call experts, but I was thinking today how funny I must appear…

for example, this afternoon I was kneeling down at my raised beds on google trying to figure out which essential oil will kill fire ants. ORANGE! I ran inside, grabbed my Young Living Orange Essential Oil, mixed it with water, a touch of dish detergent and a 1/4 of a jar of molasses. It worked! Well, tomorrow will be the real test. The directions told me to use 1 1/2 ounces of oil, but I wasn’t about to use it all so I used 5 drops. All citrus oils contain an extract, d-limonene and this extract kills imported fire ants. The molasses will entice the ants to my potion!

I purchased trash containers on sale at Lowes just over a month ago, drilled holes and planted potatoes with 10 inches of dirt. Today, I added more dirt and will continue to add to it as the plants grow. Below is a photo from today.

This next bed doesn’t look very clean, because I want to grow asparagus so badly I am afraid to touch the bed! It takes three years to grow asparagus, but guess what! Today I had one! YES, ONLY ONE! I’ll take it!

My herb garden is coming back! I have Thyme and Oregano. I am disappointed that my Rosemary did not come back, but I am going to plant some more as soon as I can. I will keep you posted this spring with my little science experiment. It’s so easy to grow in raised beds, and it’s great for small yards. You can add flowers to your beds to add color, and certain flowers will help keep the deer, rabbits, and bugs away. Ants…I haven’t figured that one out, but will let you know as soon as I do!!! Grow your own and eat healthy!

P.S. If you are reading this from a mobile device the photos will be rotated. I am trying to figure out how to fix this!

Healthy Please XOXO,

Jill
