Can Pilates Help Get Rid of Body Aches and Pains?

Yes, it can. I have taught Pilates for almost 12 years now, and I am constantly learning from those around me. I observe and wonder why teachers around me select specific exercises, I listen to their explanations, and brainstorm on the creativity that surrounds it all. It’s always interesting how some students prefer exercises that other students do not care for and vice versa. I’ve learned that daily activity and physical job requirements (even if sitting at a desk) plays into the exercises we like and do not like. In my experience, the exercises that are more difficult for us that we may not like as much are likely the ones we need most. Pilates allows for variety and modifications which keeps it exciting for me as a Pilates teacher and student.



Breathwork, and the use of the pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscle activation starting in our warm-up, connects the mind and body to bring focus to your core which includes your back! We focus to control the body through rotational movements…every session will move your spine in all directions and you will be moving all of your joints. To me, I think of a well-oiled machine. If we allow our lawn mower to sit in the shed without be used or cranked up here and there, it might give me some problems down the road. In the same way, your body is meant to be oiled up through focused movements that will work to keep your bones, joints, muscles, and tissues healthy!
